11/18/19 – (Cleaning & Planting) Vacuuming is complete in canal 6! We will complete demobilization of divers and turbidity curtains etc during the week. We are preparing to mobilize into the area of 2B3 (See map to right) and should begin cleaning this area by next week. Planting will start in Canal 6 of around 14,000 units. Please help us keep the project protected and watch your anchors to be sure you do not damage the newly planted grasses and cages.

Bonus County Maintenance: No County maintenance during Manatee season. We will start to de-mobilize from dewatering site for Maintenance and remove the Lyngbya bags from area. Trailer and pumps already gone.

10/07/19 – (Cleaning & Planting) Work began Monday vacuuming Canal 6 again after some mechanical issues last week. We will re-vacuum some areas to ensure a good cleaning and continue to move North. Divers will work in conjunction with the vacuum to make sure we are hitting our target depth for planting. Planting will begin after Lyngbya removal is complete. Please help us keep the project protected and watch your anchors to be sure you do not damage the newly planted grasses and cages.

(Cage maintenance) Divers will work to scrub cages for SAV cage maintenance in canals 2, 3,5 and 7. This should be done by Thursday. More cages are being prepared in anticipation of planting in near future.

Canal Locations

(Schatz Island/Paradise Point) Dewatering crews and trucks will haul out the one full Geotube starting Tuesday and deliver to the farm to use a fertilizer. A sweeper is being delivered to keep street clean while hauling material out. Please remember the speed limit near the entrance of Schatz Island is 15 MPH for everyone’s safety. 

Bonus County Maintenance: We will work all week in canal C before moving to the deeper part of the springs.

We will take delivery of about 1,000 more feet of pipe and fuse it together then place in position through 2a1 to canal 6 and fusion weld about another 1,200 LF of pipe and install down 2a1 to canal 6 near Three Sisters springs. (see projected map to left). Planting will begin after Lyngbya removal is complete. 09/23/19 – (Cleaning & Planting) The vacuum is scheduled to be at the end of canal 6 on Monday. All pipe connections will be completed and we will begin to pull up material late Monday or Tuesday. 09/30/19 – Last Week: (Cleaning & Planting) Work will continue east of along the causeway of Shatz Island and we are hoping to be finished by Friday. There may be a few clean up spots after we do a dive survey of the area. Last week we started working our way from the ramp on the southern end of Canal 6 and got about 150 feet partially complete. This week work will continue in Canal 6 to the North.  (see projected maps to left). Planting will begin after Lyngbya removal is complete. 05/06/19- (Maintenance) Work was done on the North end of Canal 2 all week, then moved towards the middle of canal 2.

(CleaningLyngbya removal continued on the North end of Canal 5.

(Schatz Island/Paradise Point Update) Workers continue to prepare for mobilization.

05/13/19- (Maintenance) Workers continued to scrub cages this week in Canal 2, moving south, finishing the canal at the end of the week.

(Cleaning) Our contractor continued to remove Lyngbya on the North end of Canal 5. Then, near the end of week they began to switch to an all diving, hand-held suction. Expect to see more pipe inserted in to the water, beginning at the south end of canal 5 and working back to the north.

05/20/19: (Maintenance) Expect to see workers in Canal 1 all week starting on the North end, working south. Work in Canal 1 is expected to be complete by the end of this week.

(Cleaning) Handheld vacuuming in canal 5 began on Friday, with removal of the crane arm barge Monday the 20th. Handheld vacuuming in canal 5 is expected to be finished with vacuuming this week.

(Schatz Island/Paradise Point Update) Expect to see activity on the island beginning this week. Workers will begin mobilization, to include instillation of the silt fencing, security fencing, floating dock, and project signage.

05/27/19- (Maintenance) You may begin see workers around canal 7 as they prepare for maintenance in this area next week.

(Cleaning) Handheld vacuuming has finished in canal 5. Workers will begin to remove cleaning equipment and prepare for planting.

(Planting) Once demobilization of cleaning equipment is complete on canal 5 you can expect to see beautiful eelgrass plants moving in. Planting is expected to begin Thursday or Friday, and should finish by early next week.

(Schatz Island/Paradise Point) Expect to see activity with continued instillation of silt fencing, security fencing, a floating dock, and project signage.

April

 Beginning April 1st:

Expect to see the workers preparing the area between SE 3rd Ave & SE Paradise Ave (Canal 5) for restoration. By the 2nd week of April they will up and running to cleaning your canal!

You will see a vacuum system removing the Lyngbya and muck off the canal floor. This material will be transported to a filtration system where the water is cleaned, then returned to the area. Then you will see Sea and Shoreline planting native eel grasses which will be placed in cages for 1 year, this will prevent manatees from eating the plants before the roots are established. You will see workers monitoring and cleaning the cages monthly during this maintenance stage. Please be careful with your boat anchors in this area.

Boat owners will be notified in advance to relocate your vessel for cleaning, if needed.

Sea & Shoreline and Adams Construction will use the property behind SunTrust bank as their main work site and the lot will be restored upon conclusion of this project.

04/08/19:

Members from Save Crystal River attended Monday’s (04/08/19) City Council meeting to provide an update about our application to use Schatz Island as a work site. 04/15/19:

Maintenance (Scrubbing Cages) began 04/15/19 on canal 4, expected to last 10 days. After that, we will move to canals 1 & 2. Pipe installation will begin in canal 5 this week, with cleanup expected to begin by early next week.

04/22/19:

Permitting for the use of Paradise Point has been approved (See official report here). Expect to see workers mobilizing in the area to begin preparations such as clearing underlying vegetation, installing privacy fencing, and preparing security measures to protect the work site.

Update: Maintenance (Scrubbing Cages) continues in canal 4. Canal 5 is on track with workers finishing the Lyngbya removal.

04/29/19:

(Canal 5 update) Infrastructure is complete and the vacuum barge is in the water! Removal of Lyngbya will begin this week and processed at the current site behind Sun Trust Bank. Once canal 5 is completed workers will rebuild this site to compliment the surrounding areas. Maintenance crews can also be seen in canal 5 scrubbing the cages placed last year.
